1. Nairahost Web hosting:
In 2004, I was in need of a very reliable and affordable web hosting. Though I saw quite a number of reliable web hosting companies, I considered the prices too outrageous. I discussed this with two other friends and nairahost.com emerged. In just two years, nairahost.com has risen to no 2 web hosting company in Nigeria.

Right now, we have clients in Ghana, Malaysia, USA, France among other countries. Nairahost hosting plans is an ideal choice for personal sites, blogs, small business web sites. Now with the support of increased disk space and bandwidth, you can even host company websites!!!

2. Business School Application Tips:
In December 2003, I took the decision to go for an MBA. However, I didnt take GMAT until October 2005. I scored a 650 (90th Percentile). This is not a bad score considering the fact that I studied for the GMAT without the assistance of an expensive test prep class over the course of 21 days. Moreover, I did not only submit my applications to 3 top schools in US without the help of any admission consultant, I also got admission to one of the top MBA schools.

I, therefore, decided to share my business school application experience with future MBA applicants. Hence, the reason behind MBAXPLOIT. I do hope that this blog will serve as a study guide for future GMAT test takers, MBA applicants and MBAs. One thing I am sure of is the fact that you do not need to purchase expensive test prep services to do well on the GMAT nor do u need to secure the help of a MBA admission consultant to get admission to your DREAM school! So, if you are considering going for your MBA or you have started the process, then you need to bookmark mbaxploit.com.

3. Books:
Yeah, I do write book also. I have written two books presently - one with a friend and the other one alone - though not yet in prints. We are currently working at publishing the one I wrote with a friend in the ext few weeks. So, keep a tab on this blog as I would be using it to share some of the content of the book.

4. Nigerian Webmasters Network:
This project actually started early in 2006. I was talking with my partner on the need to help fellow young Nigerians find their feet in web programming and this came to mind. www.naijawebnet.com is created to connect newbies in web programming to professionals. So, if you know anyone who is in search of knowledge or who has something to offer to hungry minds, tell them to bookmark NAIJAWEBNET.

5. Nigerian Intellectual Forum - Think Nigeria
Effective 14 December 2006, I started another project with my partner - Kayode Muyibi. We currently administer Nigerian Bloggers, at http://www.nigerianbloggers.com, a Nigerian Blog aggregator providing Feeds from Nigerian blogs in real-time.

So, I am using this opportunity to invite you to join Think Nigeria - an intellectual forum that accommodates both the freedom of speech and expression without the least amount of prejudice from the administrators.

What amount of your time it would take?

What we need from you is simply a helpful contributory visit based on convenience and probably an input in thread entries and helping new members in guidance. With this amount of responsibility, we do think that it would only take 15-20 minutes of your daily online time. If this is too much to ask of you, you could cut the time by half or even a once in a week visit.

6. My 1001 Day project:
I would be starting a new project in the next few days many thanks to Onanda who talked about and Triplux’s 101 tasks list to be completed in 1001 days. These tasks should be specific with a result that is clearly defined. Now, I have to come up with my 100 tasks list in the next few days. This list will be a mish-mash of banal and overly ambitious tasks, but, hey, I have over 3 years to complete the project!

Change is inevitable!

Published by User ImageEmmanuel under Uncategorized

Every once in a while one needs to make some important observations in order to be able to really progress. I guess it’s all part of the great learning experience that life is. It’s about change. One can actually change very little. Much less than we think.

Let’s start with a metaphore. Just look at XHTML, CSS, web standards and quality web development. One can learn all these techniques and live by them. After this learning experience one can build great websites that excel in beauty, usability, elegance and many other things that seem important to truly dedicated web developers.

However… we can’t change the web development world as a whole. A lot of people will never see the change, or even value it’s importance. A large part of the world won’t even take any advantage of the change because they keep using inferior browsers. They’ll never see a difference. In fact they might even think nothing at all changed.

The same thing is true for life. Again there’s surprisingly little we can change. Some people say ‘success is a choice‘, as if it’s up to oneself to be rich, famous, healthy and happy. Hard work! Work hard and you’ll be rewarded. Another misconception. so many people work hard. Very hard. In a factory. Right until their back gave up and they couldn’t do a thing anymore. It sure as hell doesn’t bring them very much except for enough money to survive and… a permanently damaged spinal cord. So screw the hard work thing in an attempt to change things. Some people get lucky, some don’t. Life isn’t fair. I’m sure people living in around here (africa nations) can tell you all about it.

Just like in web development, we can’t really change the way people look at us. Whether we’ve adopted all modern techniques and became a true ’standardista’, most people won’t ever see the difference. I guess it’s time to realize that the only thing one can really change is himself. No matter what we try to tell people, no matter what we do, it’s not in our hands to change the way they look at us. In the very lucky case, something does change in the way people look at a person it can only mean one thing: It’s THOSE PEOPLE who made a change. It isn’t the person himself. If one would think he accomplished this himself he’d be fooling himself and giving himself way too much credit.

So here I am… life keeps showing me it’s futile to expect other people or anything in the world around me to notice the change. Hmmm… no.. that sounds too harsh. Some part of the world around us and the people around us will notice but to really see and feel the change requires some serious change on the side of the beholder.

So, here’s reality applied to life itself. We can screw things up in a split second which will take months, years or even forever to repair. Ask that Microsoft developer who applied the wrong box model to Internet Explorer’s rendering engine. We can’t change things on our own and we can’t change a thing about what people think of us. Not Joe Average on the street, not our friends, not our family and not even our loved ones. We can only change ourselves. And … I swear to God that’s what I’m doing.

Census Break is over!

Published by User ImageEmmanuel under Uncategorized

Hey… it seems as if I should not return back to work but the Census Break is over and every body has to come to the reality of the work at hand. Though the Federal Government has extended the Census break, I had to summon all the strength within me to return back to work. I have quite a lot of things to tidy up both at office and business [don't let my oga hear say I dey run Private Business at work oh :-)]. Anyway, it is great to be back at my desk…

Personally made Christmas gifts

Published by User ImageEmmanuel under Finances, Naija!, Uncategorized

XmasIt is that time of year again. Yuletide! Christmas in the air. Nostalgia, goose pimples and casting off all financial discipline. It was originally meant to commemorate the birth of Jesus Christ - Joy to the world, and good will to all men… I found this piece below useful and I decided to share it with all.

This is the biggest sales season of the year. Shops prepare all year for this moment. To boost sales, some shops in victoria island, ikoyi and ikeja offer some tantalizing price reductions, 30% off, buy one get one free etc. Woolworths is doing a clearance sales of 50% to 70% off.

They work on your psyche until you give up the fight, switch your brains off and give in fully to your emotions. There is a nice sounding word for this victory: consumer confidence. In plain english - Buy now, regret later.

You must buy new clothes for every member of the household, especially the kids, take them to see ‘father Xmas’, send gifts/hampers/cards to relatives, friends and foes. You must decorate your living room with lighting effects even if only for the 30 minutes NEPA will afford you electricity, renew or upgrade your cable subscription, spend on more cooking, kill a chicken, turkey or goat depending on your purse etc.
